1Password will fill the login for the bot so the bot never sees your password. That is not the same as the bot never getting into the account.
What happened
Thursday, October 22, 1Password announced 1Password for Agents. When a personal AI agent hits a sign-in page, it can ask 1Password for a login. You get a prompt on your own device — which account, and why. If you approve, 1Password fills the password or one-time code into the form. The agent does not see the credential.
1Password says this is included on Individual and Family plans, and it is optional. You do not have to connect an agent. Meta Muse and SpaceXSI Grok Bot are rolling out over the coming days. Anthropic's Claude Duet is listed as coming soon. The company also named ChatGPT Work, Dots, and Town Townie.
The Verge described the same loop: a unique digital key from the agent, a human approval that looks like two-factor, then autofill.
Why it matters
The hype sentence is “your password manager hired a helper.” The true sentence is the vault will open the door without handing over the key.
That is better than pasting a password into a chat. It is also how a bot gets into Amazon, Gmail, or the party-supply shop while you are looking at a notification that looks like two-factor.
1Password's own FAQ says the quiet part: after the agent is signed in, it may see information or take actions in that account. The password staying secret is not a leash.
If you do not use 1Password, this is still the week the industry is teaching people that “the bot never saw the password” is the new marketing sentence.
What I'd actually do
If you use 1Password: today, do not join the agent waitlist unless you actually want a bot logging into a specific site. If a prompt asks to connect Muse, Grok Bot, ChatGPT, or Claude Duet to 1Password, treat it like a two-factor ping. Read the account name. Default is no.
If you already connected something: open 1Password and disconnect the agent you did not mean to hire.
If you do not use 1Password: still do not paste passwords into ChatGPT, Muse, or any other chat. That was the ugly option this feature is trying to replace.
You do not have to uninstall 1Password. You also do not have to let it log the bot in.
How it works
The agent asks. You approve or deny on your phone or computer. 1Password calls this Agentic Autofill: it types the password or one-time code into the site. Connecting an agent does not dump the whole vault. 1Password says you can pick which saved login if more than one matches.
What this is not
A 1Password breach. A required update. Proof Muse is already shopping your vault tonight.
What not to do
Do not tap Allow because it looks like a lock. Do not assume “coming soon” means it cannot appear this week — Muse is rolling out in the coming days. Do not confuse this with Claude Duet's waitlist; that is a different app. This door is the vault.
The sticky-note version: if a password app asks to log a bot in, read the account, then usually no.
